TradeChat got to interview Refute and Preheat from Limit about what it takes to be a competitive Mythic Raider and they described some of the challenges top raiding guides face. Limit recently achieved the US first kill of Mythic Argus in the Antorus, the Burning Throne raid.
Refute plays a Restoration Druid and Preheat is a Mage and Officer in Limit.
Here's a brief summary of some of the questions and answers but for the full statement and context, make sure to watch the full video:
Q: What is it like during the progression phase when pushing at the top levels?
Preheat: The progression phase is like an endurance match. Any given tier can last from as little as a week like Emerald Nightmare, up to multiple weeks like Tomb of Sargeras when guilds are trying to see how often they can get enough people on.
Refute: It's definitely an endurance match and the difference is how much your raiders can put out in a short amount of time. Limit day-raids during the first week of content for 12 hour raiding days.
Q: How much preparation goes into something like the World First race?
P: A lot of the preparation changes based on what the expansion is and what requirements there are for the expansion. Legion is like way back in the day where you have tons to do outside of raid, compared to last expansion where there wasn't much to do outside of raid minus some officer stuff. This expansion has been very intense with getting everyone their legendaries, Artifact Power and getting all their gear Titanforged before raid.
Q: What happened with the
R: After a night of Argus progression, a healer was trying really hard to get another healer to click a shortened link in Discord. He was using a link shortener to link to another shortener to try to get their IP. Using this he would try to knock them offline to get their raid spot.
P: Morale is important and you might expect something like to this to affect morale negatively but they are able to rally as a guild and increase their morale.

Q: How has this affected the guild going forward?
P: Limit is very clear during the Recruitment process that there is a zero-tolerance policy for DDOS'ing. DDOS'ing affects the community in a negative way and there's no excuse for DDOS'ing for any reason, in any games.
Q: How would you feel about Antorus compared to other raids?
P: This raid is interesting because 90% of it is very very easy. Then you have Aggramar which is quite difficult but not insane, followed by Argus which makes you reevaluate your strategy going into a tier.
R: Even with a strategy there's still a lot of RNG on Argus.
P: Yes, it's a very very difficult boss. The others might have fallen short in this tier, not so much the first few because they are supposed to be a gimme.
Q: What do you think is the best difficulty curve?
P: I think a sloping difficulty curve is the best. It's not very interesting to have a lot of bosses that you kill in an hour, but then spend 90-100 hours on the last one. Also, if you didn't clear 9 bosses in the first week, it would be great.
Q: Do you think that Argus is the hardest boss you've encountered in WoW?
P: I'm not sure if it's the hardest boss. I would say that Kil'jaeden is numerically harder but there were also setbacks last tier and set our progression back. It's at least on par with some of the harder bosses we've fought.
R: The buffs and debuffs that come out is a very meticulous thing. I don't know of another boss that had something like that.
P: The Chinese guilds are streaming their progression and you see that they got to the last phase very quickly.... and that's where the fight truly begins. We were very excited to get to the last phase, but the last phase is where the fight truly begins.
Q: For players who are getting into raiding or players who want to raid more seriously, do you have any advice for them?
P: Find a guild that is a little bit better than yours, but not too big of a jump. You should start by working your way up the ladder; that's how a lot of people in Limit did it and that's how I did it. If you're looking to improve, one of the best things is to become a raid leader. Having the understanding and awareness that is required to become a raid leader, can be really huge and will improve you as a player.
Q: What kind of social media do you guys have?
is our guild's Twitter handle with an awesome community manager.
