WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Welcome to the third edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
If you're new to this series or want to re-visit past posts, you can check out the
first
and
second
edition, including some tips on farming and selling Transmog while the current
Trial of Style event
is active.
My name is Gumdrops and I’m the lead moderator for the
/r/woweconomy subreddit
and the accompanying
Discord server
. I am also the Support Manager & User Evangelist for
TradeSkillMaster
, the Auction House addon suite for World of Warcraft. I hope to cover and showcase some of the interesting topics, discussions, content and guides that have been going on over the last week in the gold making community. Some that you might have missed as a veteran gold maker, or you might be interested in checking out for the first time as a new or aspiring ‘goblin’.
The format will not be that of a traditional guide, but links to further reading with commentary and opinions of my own. I will be looking at the bigger picture, the decision making and thought processes in being a gold maker – rather than a step by step instructional list. As the saying goes, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.
If you're anything like me, you have a bunch of alts at varying degrees of completeness. Whether you lost interest while leveling, or created an army of lowbies to farm for the Love is in the Air
커다란 사랑의 로켓
mount or
저주받은 기사의 고삐
from the upcoming Hallow's End holiday event, you could potentially put these characters to good use.
/u/Gauntl3t shares some of their current spots and asks for some pointers on other strategic locations to park some characters
:
I have a ton of alts I don't have time to play and right now I'm using some of them to camp some spots for potential drops. A few are
갈니아
in timeless isle for
루비 물방울
.
데미도스
in Draenor for
데미도스의 하인
. I use my Druid to hunt
차원의 감시자 콜리더스
for the eye-patch style transmog pieces in Outland.
Do any of you do something similar for unplayed alts?
Some of my personal favourite spots are focused around instanced or dungeon/raid farms, generally being able to quickly fill up a the '10 instances per hour' lockout way before the hour is over. This is sometimes called
Fragmented Gold Per Hour
since it's often not possible to do these methods for a straight hour, but adding up the total time spent until you get to an hour usually gives a decent return for time spent.
1. My first spot is for
둥지 여왕의 벌집
which drops from
풀날개 둥지 여왕
just inside the entrance of
줄구룹
. You can kill this mini-boss 10 times in 5-8 minutes, since it is so close to the entrance, and is a great source of
황혼의 말리꽃
,
생명의 휘발물
and
바람의 휘발물
.
2. Next up is
물의 티끌
from
굽이치는 물의 정령
,
물의 피조물
and
물의 군주
in the lead up to the first boss in
검은 사원
. Killing all of these mobs and resetting the instance will force all of them to respawn so that you can kill them again. You can fill up your instance lock out in under 30 minutes and net around 300 motes or 30
물의 근원
. This works best with
곰 육회
to get a movement speed increase after killing an enemy.
3. Another option in Outland is to speed clear (or sneak through)
으스러진 손의 전당
to kill the
으스러진 손 집행자
at the end, he drops 1-2
물의 근원
,
바람의 근원
,
불의 근원
or
대지의 근원
.
4. Staying in Outland, if your character happens to be exalted with
무역연합
, you can do a
small quest chain
to obtain an item to summon the bonus boss
요르
inside Heroic
마나 무덤
. This boss drops one of four Bind on Equip transmog pieces which are worth over on average. Since this boss is only accessible on Heroic mode, it can be done once per day.
/u/NoUploadsEver shares some of their experiences with 13 level 110 characters
:
1.
잔달라 전쟁인도자
,
잔달라 전투정찰병
, and
전쟁신 도카
. On weekdays there is a chance on some servers that these guys are not being camped and with multiple characters you can log in and out fairly easily to check whether they are up. Preferably use Engineering characters with
웜홀 생성기: 판다리아
to scatter the characters across the spawn points. The Warbringers drop Direhorn mounts (
태고의 호박석 공포뿔 고삐
) and all of them drop two types of supplies bags and reputation tokens. By the time you get all 3 mounts from the Warbringers you will have enough tokens to get exalted with
음영파
,
위대한 천신회
,
클락시
, and
황금 연꽃
factions. Additionally they drop a lot of materials useful in crafting the Pandaria mounts, particularly the panthers. Easy source of
황금 연꽃
,
키파라이트
, and even
유령무쇠 광석
. They also drop a few BoEs, but they generally don't sell that well for me.
2. Low level rare spawns for mog items. This is more of a time efficient way to get old BoE that don't have a high drop rate from dungeons. Park a character at a mob and log in every few hours and kill it. Rather than killing 30 mobs you kill one. I've done this with the rare spawn bugs in
실리더스
(they don't have the Glorious set in their guaranteed BoE loot table, but they do drop elegant and ornante sets.)
Staying in Pandaria,
/u/vic6string talks about their perch
:
I used to leave a toon on
영원의 섬
for the
가시집게 꽃게
. That is probably the toughest pet to find in the game (of those that you can actually go hunting). You can go months without seeing one on the AH. As an added bonus, you have another water pet (
비취안개 춤꾼
) right in the same area so you can log in and if the crab isn't up you kill all the
비취안개 춤꾼
and try your luck with two pets at once.
/u/taterz58 likes some 'zone out farming'
:
I park one of my toons at the entrance to
불의 땅
and fish
불의 휘발물
. They sell for each on my server so I just farm them myself while crafting or watching YouTube. I also fish for
돌연변이 물고기
if I'm out of
돌연변이 물고기 별미
. They sell for about each. I'm all for lazy YouTube farming so it works for me.
If you like fishing you can also park a character in
심원의 영지
to fish for
백색 동굴어
. Selling these raw or using an Alchemist to produce
심해석 기름
for the
모래의 약병
recipe can be lucrative.

Sniping is the act of buying an item within a few seconds of it being posted on the Auction House. The early methods of doing this were using the 'Snatch' list in Auctioneer, however the go-to strategy for Auction House sniping today is using
TradeSkillMaster
. More often than not, the items that you'd want to snipe are posted at the wrong price, but why would someone post something at the wrong price?
/u/vic6string lists the top 5 reasons people post items at 'stupid' prices
, or "why you got sniped":
1. They just don't know the price, and don't feel like (or don't know how to) looking up the price online.
2. They posted a stack for stack price when they meant to post at unit price (50g per stack when they meant 50g per unit)
3. They missed a digit (I just bought
비취 다리갑옷
yesterday for ...I am sure he meant ...sold them same day for )
4. They based their price on old data, like their memory or wowhead comments. Example:
영민한 정신의 비약
used to sell for a couple thousand gold back in WoD, so someone just coming back to the game for the first time since WoD might post a bunch at what he used to sell them for, not knowing they no longer drop in garrisons and now sell for ten times that much.
5. They are trying to move an item from one faction to another and the sniper beats them to it.
Obviously some of these are genuine mistakes or errors made without realizing, which has lead to the topic of 'morality' or 'sniping guilt' coming up many times in the gold-making community. People often feel bad for winning an item by sniping it, especially if you are contacted by the seller of the item. I've said myself that 'there is no empathy in gold-making', meaning you are only hurting yourself if you try and keep anyone but yourself (and your profits) happy. There is a chance that you will get abuse from the seller if you snipe them, with threats of reports and contacting Game Masters - however it's important to remember that Sniping is not against the rules, and a transaction through the Auction House with a price the seller sets and the buyer agrees to pay is not something a GM will help with. The other end of the spectrum where someone understands what happened, and is generally polite about their request to have the item(s) returned will have a much better chance of succeeding.
To get an idea of what people have been sniping, there is a
weekly thread on the /r/woweconomy subreddit
where people share their latest flips and snipes. And there is a
corresponding channel on the Discord server
, which is great for getting a quick price check before you pull the trigger on something you're not 100% sure about.
If you're interested in sniping with TradeSkillMaster, this video guide from
Sheyrah
explains some of the fundamental concepts of how to snipe and setting it up using the popular formula made by BilisOnyxia:
The famous
/u/BilisOnyxia
formula used in the video above, checks the value of each item that's posted and will display it in the sniper results based on certain thresholds.
Here he explains it in more detail
, but provides a simple breakdown:
Here is a little easier to read breakdown of my formula:
If an item's value is greater than , use 90%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 80%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 60%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 50%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 30%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 20%.
If an item's value is greater than , use 10%.
If an item's value is or less, exclude it no matter how cheap it gets listed. (I was tired of having all kind of junk pop up in my sniper results)
For example, an item has a value of it would need to be listed on the Auction House while you're sniping for less than for it to be displayed in the sniper results to buy it. Or an item with a value of would need to be listed for less than . The lower the value of the item, the lower the price threshold is set for it to be displayed for purchasing.
If you get stuck setting up TradeSkillMaster, or the Sniper tool specifically, do drop in to the
dedicated TSM Support channel on the Discord server
, there's always someone around to lend a hand!
Last week's wrap-up had a great comment from Wowhead.com user
Magneith
that I wanted to highlight specifically. They share some insight on making gold with Battle Pets:
Pets are incredibly lucrative with basic knowledge of battle pets. There is some initial unprofitable work but after that it's just time that you give.
You will need a few different pets of each family, at least 3 of each, leveled to 25. Once you get your first couple of 25s, you can power level everything else you need. To pick what pets you need, I would suggest looking up a guide to the
Tanaan Jungle legendary pet battles
and level the pets they recommend you use for those battles, as that will be your main focus for potential gold. Once you have your pets, there are two addons called PetJournalEnhanced and Rematch. The first gives you a heap of extra filters and search options in your pet journal. The second allows you to save and manage teams so when you next do a battle, a simple mouseover or click will load the team you need. Initially, you will need to put the teams together for each battle, but once saved, a round trip of all 15 pets in Tanaan Jungle should take 45-60 min.
Some great guides to bookmark are from
HazelNuttyGames
, she is a master Pet Battler and
has a guide for nearly all of the PvE Pet Battle encounters in the game
.
Now you are ready to make some gold.
You can do the Tanaan battles once per day on any toon you can take to that area. The reward for each battle is
마에 물든 애완동물용품
. There are at least 4 pets you can get from those bags. The two you are after are the
바다 포자
and the
악몽의 종
, which currently on my realm, are worth about and respectively. As with transmog items though, some of the more expensive pets can take a week or two to shift. With the pets you also get
반짝이는 애완동물 부적
in the bags. These are Bind on Battle.net and they add up quick. You can then buy more pets and some toys from the vendors to sell on the AH. Some people want the pets and toys, but don't want to grind charms or want to combine spending charms and gold.
If you get bored of those, you can shake it up a bit and do the
Pandaria Pet Battle Dailies
, but they are quests that can only be done once per account per day, rather than once per character.
Now that you're an established pet battler, sort of, you can look at the other options. The new pet battle dungeons are an opportunity to again obtain and buy more rare pets that sell for 50-. But you do need a lot of level 25s. Or again, look up the guides for
Wailing Caverns
and
Deadmines
pet battle dungeons and level the pets they recommend.
If you are flat against battling, you can still make money by farming for Battle Pets. Those from older raids like
오그리마 공성전
still sell very well. There is still some work involved to get your toons up to being capable of soloing SoO, but you can do it on multiple toons and pets like
코보크
for example, still fetch 30-.
So that covers the battling and farming aspects of Battle Pets, but what if you don't want to do either of those?
/u/Vahdis drew up a fantastic guide
on flipping Battle Pets on your own and other realms that is still relevant to this day. You can
check him out on Twitter
, where he
shares his flips and sales
. He's always open to answer any Battle Pet questions too!
One of the great aspects of the gold-making community is the willingness to share data and information. Some of the WoW Economic 'constants' such as the proc rate on Rank 3 Flasks and Potions as an Alchemist, or the Obliterum Ash yield from different crafted items, or the amount of pigments you should expect to receive when you're milling Legion herbs, are all deduced by collaborative efforts and sharing of data in the community.
Some recent data came from
/u/Avisay
and
/u/ghostmarble
, they milled just under 80,000

Kurraga, one of the 'Trusted Goblins' in the /r/woweconomy community has collected information on Prospecting together, with data on over 250,000 prospects of
지맥석 광석
and
지옥판암
.
This spreadsheet
shows the number of gems you could expect to get from Mass Prospecting and Weaving Legion Ores.
Another major source of information and data comes from
Sheyrah
, mentioned earlier in this article. She has a
public spreadsheet that covers every aspect of data collection
that a gold-maker might need in Legion including Milling, Prospecting, Disenchanting, Obliterating, Alchemy procs and more. She is currently preparing updates for the upcoming 7.3 profession changes, so this document is well worth having bookmarked.
This kind of community driven data collection and sharing is also very useful to ensure that these 'constants' or rates remain the same, the gold-making community is often quick to spot any adjustments to these numbers which could lead to a change in profit from a particular market. If you feel like you want to share some of the data you've collected, or are interested in keeping an eye out for this type of content -
it is tagged as 'Data Collection' on the /r/woweconomy subreddit
.
Most of this information was discussed and originally posted on the
/r/woweconomy subreddit
or in the accompanying
Discord server
. You can also catch me
streaming live on Twitch
every Tuesday and Saturday from 5PM UK (12 Noon US Eastern) answering gold making and TradeSkillMaster questions, or you can tweet your feedback/thoughts via Twitter at
