Back when the game was great, and no content was old. Want to do Black temple? Good, go clear T5 raids. Not attuned for t5 raids? Go clear t4 raids.
My main memory of that release, was standing in queue for 7 hours to get a shot at getting a Collector's Edition, spending much of the time talking to an acquaintance of mine who ended up getting EU 2nd or 3rd Draenei to 70 (and later raiding with Forte IIRC). The queue was insane, to the point that the local news even turned up to film it. It didn't help there were 2 or 3 game shops on the same street (pedestrian shopping area), so there were people queueing everywhere. Then rushing home and starting a Belf Warlock and levelling him on one of the fresh realms that had been released.
Back when exp came up with 6 raids to start with (ok, some were short, but still far away from jokes that happened later)
This isn't news. Why do you push this through your wowhead news bot?
Man this brings back memories.I've always been quite fond of the horde, ever since their AWESOME portrayal in Warcraft 3, and was so disappointed with the vanilla models for most horde races (Vanilla Male Orcs in particular were horrible). Then they announce TBC, and my favorite race in the lore is becoming playable? That alone was awesome enough, but then they also made them available to the horde instead of the alliance!?!??!?!!I rerolled my old warlock to blood elf, and never looked back. Played almost exclusively blood elves until WoD brought the new models for old races, finally allowing me to play something else without having to cringe when I look at my character.
I was in college. I remember myself and two mates (who lived down the hall in our dorm) took the train to the nearest Best Buy to get the game day 1. We left immediately after class and pulled an all nighter playing through the new zones. It was the coolest experience ever -- we loved the game already and now we finally had NEW stuff to enjoy.
Oh dear god, I feel so old now. My account's older than some people who're playing the game now.I got my CE delivered, it arrived the afternoon before launch (much unlike now... now I have to buy a standard digital edition on top of the CE box if I want to play at the midnight launch, grrrr) and then stayed up alllllllll night.playing. I remember all that red in HFP hurting my eyes, ha.
Back then heroic mode ment HEROIC!
Ah yes pump me with more nostalgia. Could have that become playable again, it will never be the same. People are far too impatient nowadays.
"Patch 2.3 - The Gods of Zul'Aman" My 2nd favorite patch trailer, first of course being "Patch 3.3 - Fall of the Lich King" even if you count theatrical expansion trailers, FotLK still tops the list for me!
I remember even on a PvP server both sides helping each other with the near-instant respawns in Hellfire Peninsula. You wouldn't even get to loot before something was wailing on you again. It was a damned good time, and the raiding was so good - even running 5-6 alts through Karazhan every week until WOTLK. Now that's longevity.
Ah, the good old days... when they fully polished expansions before releasing. Mostly.
Nostalgia kicks in................
Ahhh, the aldor/scryer grindfest and elevator boss in shattrath.I TRULY believe that much of what made vanilla and BC so "great" was the lack of online guides and resources (funny how I'm posting this on Wowhead). The discovery aspect of the game and feeling like you're in this dauntingly large and dangerous world... There's absolutely nothing Blizzard could do to bring that back. Not with 100 different YouTube guides of how to get to the endgame in the most efficient manner (and then guides for that as well).Unless you're a poop-socker in the realm first race, you're basically guaranteed to play the game second-hand.The raids and dungeons have all gotten better over the years, but people are now using a plethora of guides, add-ons, etc. and everything *seems* easierThe only close experience I've had to "the old days" is the literally the first 16-24 hours a new expansion drops and people are running around in a truly new world. If you miss that, it's gg. Not gonna happen from patch to patch.
