"Although it may not seem like it, Touch of Karma is actually a HUGE problem for Windwalker and has been for a long time. Beyond the fact that it promotes a “degenerate playstyle” where you have to use your defensive abilities for offensive gain, which will be getting worse in Shadowlands with Fortifying Brew coming back"This is bad thinking... so what it gives damage, but if your actually TRYING to use this offensively then your in the wrong... just bloody treat it like a defensive CD and stop giving WW a bad name. boohoo you cant reflect some dmg to a boss at the cost of not being a pain to your healer(s) and tank(s).Its only a "Thorn in your side" because your making it so.
As always, thanks Babs for the super in-depth review and thorough response! I hope that there will be better numbers tuning soon to help us WW mains in the PvE environment. Especially with BrM not being the "top dog" anymore (or even two in certain tiers for a raid -.-), we may see a dedicated WW spot emerge in the raiding scene. I will be following this thread and hope for blue responses to these articles :)
The state of WW Covenant options is very disappointing given that BrM has 3 very interesting options, and only Venthyr is unappealing. I guess given the history of Monk, it would make sense that whatever you choose for BrM is going to wind up being underwhelming/borderline useless as WW.
Did they remove that trash mastery forcing you to use a different ability every global? If not, I'm still not touching Windwalker.
I wish WW would return to how it worked in WoD with an extremely high skill cap with managing Chi Torpedo for burst dmg and Chi Explosion as a chi dump that could spend all your chi and give additional effects depending on how much it consumed.I honestly don't like the Hit Combo mastery because it restricts you to such a streamlined rotation that doesn't allow you to hold spells or prepare for mechanics like most other specs can.
I'm very surprised by what you say on Weapons of Order. Several things:-First, while it does not line up perfectly with Storm, Earth and Fire, it's not that big a problem (compared to other classes with the same issue). Given that Storm Earth and Fire has two charges, that means you can always line up one charge during it, and once over three time, line two charges during the duration. Meaning, if you are timing it properly, you can use WoO on CD while using Storm Earth and Fire always during WoO, never outside it.-Given it's a burst CD, if Xuen get his gale burst passive, of course you should line them up, it's not as if 10% additional damage during your burst is always better than 10% outside it?-Your rotation during it looks awful (no offense). Not sure why you would ever do something like TP-SCK-BOK-SCK (unless you are doing aoe) after a RSK over something like BOK-TP-BOK-SCK (And then BOK again, even if the buff expired, as you have an additional chi, something you don't have with the first rotation). You are doing 1 to 2 more BOK for one less SCK, so you are doing much more damage in general, and you are getting more recharge on RSK (and FoF) to continue the combo.Basically, a rotation like TP-RSK-BOK-TP-BOK-SCK-BOK sounds much stronger. You are not pooling that much chi (you are not pooling any if the last BOK doesn't benefit from the buff), you are getting a much stronger rotation compared to normal (since you are spending the equivalent of 7 chi in 2 TP), and you are getting a massive buff to mastery (You say 15%, but with last rank conduit, it's actually 35%, which is massive, and it's on top of the better rotation). For a burst CD with an uptime of 30%, it's absolutely insane. You barely talked about the subject of aoe as well, where you can actually abuse SCK at 1 chi to do an even higher aoe dps than normal.Basically, WoO is a strong buff, it's actually not a boring "fire and forget" skill as you can change (and should) your rotation to abuse the !@#$ out of it, and it's numerically extremely strong. Not sure what you want more about it?
I love your write ups on monk but I do think you need to kinda get over the karma doing damage thing. Let's not suck all the flavor out of the game.
Not sure the devs really care about WW. As soon as I saw weapons of order I just lost hope for any thoughtful iteration of the spec in shadowlands. I mean how creatively broken do you have to be that one of your 4 new "awesome abilities" that re supposed to attract players to one of 4 categories, is a cd reset? like, seriously.
I'm not liking WW for Shadowlands. Serenity won't be usable at all and we'll yet again be stuck with the annoying to use Storm Earth and Fire.
Great write-up! I actually loved The Emperor's Capacitor, yes it made it so we couldn't move during the channel, but that was the trade-off. It basically made you vulnerable for the duration of the channel BUT it did HUUUUGE damage to compensate. So it forced you to play well (ie knowing when fire on ground was coming and prepare accordingly). It was also a great time for you to regen all your energy back to full. You start off at low energy and by end of channel you back at full energy and ready to make some big chi.
1. Meh. 2. Touch of Death is dead :(
